The War

“Age is simply the number of years  the world has been enjoying you”

General…sir what are our orders?

Quickly men, the enemy has invaded and they have breached our perimeter. We must mount a multipronged attack to defeat them.

The LEUKOCYTES are already on the job.

Have the MAST division lay down a volley of histamine bombs.

We are going to have to use toxins so open the factories and call the NEUTROPHILS back to work; tell them to also create those mesh like structures.

Release the MACROPHAGE hounds…they should be hungry enough to eat anything let them attack at will.

We need reinforcements; have headquarters send the DENDRITES and oh, while we are at it tell the CYTOKINES to stand ready.

Where are the LYMPHOCYTES? I want both the T and B squadron each at the left and right flank.

Lastly call Major Purdy in special forces, tell him to ready his men the KILLER T’s…they attack at dusk.

Sound strange, made up, cheesy? This is essentially how your body protects itself during an infection or any type of tissue damage that might or might not have virus or bacteria. The general in this case being your brain which is directing your immune system of macrophages lymphocytes, leukocytes etc. In this particular “war” we are defending against a virus. Each of those steps not only produces acute inflammation (which we need at that particular moment), but also kills the virus and creates antibodies preparing us for the next time we are infected. It is only when we are unhealthy that we lose the war and the infection takes hold.

Our bodies are always in a conflict of some kind. Whether it is protecting itself from infections, the environment, weight gain, sugar, cancer, high blood pressure, premature aging and a host of other factors. There is always a “WAR”going on. Our bodies want to be free and well; no problems, no sickness, no joint stiffness, no pain. This state of well-being is called homeostasis, a fancy way of saying that you are in balance.

This balance or homeostasis does not come easy. We have to treat our bodies well with exercise, nutrition, steep clean air, water and being in harmony with nature. This is a seven day 365 job, and if not done, our bodies begin to decay. So while our bodies are fighting to be well, sometimes we complicate the issue with fried foods, fast foods, drugs smoking, empty calories and alcohol, among others, thus weakening the immune system.

Which brings us to the first of Prosperous-Lifestyle’s seven laws for optimum health.

Law Number One:

We are either moving toward good health or away from good health. There is never a middle ground or a space to coast and do nothing.

The moment we stop taking care of our health, we are reversing our health gains and moving towards sickness and ill health.

Seeking, and maintaining good health is a sensitive, frustrating, sometimes painful and agonizing process. It is especially difficult when there are so many people and articles that point you in so many directions trying to solve the same problem.

If you are lost or just don’t know what to do, take heart, I have been there and definitely done that. So even though we are in this dark tunnel together I can assure you that the light we see up ahead is not a freight train coming at us. We are about to start at the very beginning with the basics; nutrition, exercise, proper health maintenance, some patience and a little faith.

Following are a series of tips on nutrition starting with MACRONUTRIENTS. Look out for it.

Always approach your day moving towards good health.

Be Well.
